Description
The Traveler's Tree or Traveler's Palm (Ravenala madagascariensis Sonn.) is a tall herbaceous plant endemic to Madagascar, belonging to the Strelitziaceae family.
It gets its name from the fact that its characteristic fan-shaped leaves, with a cup-shaped base that collects rainwater, are used by travelers to quench their thirst.
Incorrectly classified as a palm, it is actually a tall herbaceous plant, much like the banana tree.
